(2009) Leona and I were married in 1976.
I adopted her three children, a girl and 2 boys.
We lived in Monroe on small acreage and raised our own beef cattle until moving to Sedro Woolley in 1986 because of work.
Lost our developmentally disable daughter in March of 2006.
I retired July of 2006 after 42 years of service with the railroad and moved to Montana in April of 2008.
We are enjoying retirement in the beautiful Bitterroot Valley.
Hobbies are woodworking and camping. |

Camille went to Monroe schools but moved to Everett in the 5th grade.
She graduated from Cascade High in 1964 and attended the University of Washington for 2 years studying Home Economics Education.
She married Bob and moved to Maryland in 1967 finishing her degree program.
She taught home ec in the schools for three years until she and Bob began their family.
Upon returning to work, when the children were in middle school, she chose another field of work in jewelry retailing until 2003 when she retired.
Her husband is an electrical engineer and plans to retire in two years.
They have three children
36 year old daughter (hair dresser), married with two daughters (16 and 6)
33 year old son (graphic designer), married with a 7 year old son
30 year old daughter (microbiologist), married.
They live in Westminster, Maryland which is in a country setting much like Monroe. Her hobbies include gardening, sewing and embroidering.

DConnie V. Barker, 53 of Everett passed away May 28, 1998.
She was born on February 6, 1945 in Spokane, WA., daughter of Forrest and Rose Barker.
Connie was a member of the New Life Center Foursquare Church of Everett and was well liked by other members of the church.
She was a collector of porcelain dolls and loved watching sports on TV.
She is survived by her mother, Rose Barker; two brothers and three sisters, Roseann and Charles Roetcisoender,
Larry and Barbara Barker, Patricia Redwood, Ed Barker and Mary Ellen and John Brand; 12 nieces and nephews, and two cousins,
Floyd Barker and Bob Dunwoodie.
She was preceded in death by her father, Forrest; and grandparents, Rose and Laurence Dunwoodie.
Visition will be held at Solie Funeral Home on Sunday, May 31, 1998 from Noon-6:00 p.m.
Private family services will be held at Birch Bay.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements under the care of Solie Funeral Home. |

(2009) I find it very hard to write something about myself. I am never sure where to begin or where to end.
After high school I went to Everett Junior College for a year then married Don Dyer. We had two children, Devin, now 42 and Dawn, now 39 . We were in the military and lived in a lot of different places. After many years we decided it would be better to go our own way.
In 1985 I married Pete Wylie. He had two children, Donna and Daniel. Yes, we became the family of "D"s. We were in the military for a few years then he became a pilot for Delta Airlines.
We lived in New Orleans, Memphis and Riverside, Ca. In 1990 we moved up here to Federal Way.
My life is so different from what I imaged and in a good way. I am able to travel, I have 91/2 grandchildren. Nick is 19 and going to college in Texas , Courtney is 14 and in high school, Geni is 12, going on 17, Ian is 12, Andrew is 11, Braeden is 5, Owen is 4, Ellie is 1 and Maya is 1. They keep me on my toes.
We are very involved with the Hawaiian community here as my husband is part Hawaiian and grew up in Hawaii. We travel to Hawaii whenever possible. Believe it or not...I am a competetive hula dancer. Who would have guessed......
I am looking forward to seeing everyone. Should be fun.

(2009) I received a bachelor of arts degree in home ec education from Seattle University in 1969.
In early 1973, my husband, Rick, and I met on a blind date. We were soon to discover that we were both twins.
Before the end of the year, we were married and soon built our home on the east end of Snohomish.
I worked as an educational assistant in the Snohomish School District for twenty years and retired in July 2008.
My husband retired from Proctor and Gamble in 2007. Our first child, Rick Jr., was born in 1978 and Jennifer was born in July 1979.
Rick graduated in Business and Finance from the University of Washington.
His real interest was in firefighting and accepted a position with the Duvall Fire Department in 2001.
Jenny graduated in actuarial science(math) from Central Washington University and accepted her first job with a Healthcare Company in Huntington Beach,CA.
where she met her husband, Drew, and were married in 2003. In 2005, they were blessed with their first child, Trevor.
They decided at this time to look for employment in Washington State and move home.
Trevor loves to play with cars, trucks, trains and planes, and Bob the Builder.
Our second grandchild, Claire, is 19 months old and loves to climb and now a big fan of gymnastics.
Our son Rick and his wife Krista just had a beautiful baby boy born in August and we are having a wonderful time getting to know him.
Both Rick and I feel so blessed to have these grandchildren and love our titles of Gammy and Papa.
We enjoy traveling to eastern Washington, Oregon coast, visiting with family and friends, and playing with our grandkids. |

Married Lowell in 1970 and worked in a couple of hospitals and medical offices as a medical secretary and medical transcriptionist
until our first child was born. We moved to Coos Bay, Oregon in 1973 for a short while and then a job transfer for Lowell brought us back to
Snohomish where we have lived for the last 32 years. Have two daughters, Laura who is a speech and language pathologist and works for
the Everett School District and lives in the Mill Creek area. Stacia was married this summer and she and Glenn live in South Seattle.
Stacia works as a reading specialist at Madison Middle School in Seattle and Glenn is a fireman at the Ballard station.
I went to work for the Snohomish School District as an educational assistant in 1986 until I retired in 2002.
We've enjoyed some traveling and I enjoy gardening, crocheting, cooking, volunteering and visiting with family and friends. |

(2009) Kath and I were married in 1970 (Aug 8th).
I worked for GTE/Verizon for 35 years and retired in 2002.
We moved to Coos Bay, Oregon in 1973 for a short while and then a job transfer for me brought us back to
Snohomish where we have lived for the last 32 years. Have two daughters, Laura who is a speech and language pathologist and works for
the Everett School District and lives in the Mill Creek area. Stacia was married this summer and she and Glenn live in South Seattle.

Stacey is 35 divorced and has one beautiful little girl Demri. Stacey works at Boeing.
Trish is a retired postmaster. I'm retired from Seattle Fire Dept.I am a Nam vet served as a pointman for the recondo's of the 502 101st abn div.
We fish, travel, camp,hunt, ride motorcycles, and enjoy our grandaughter.

(2007) I live with my son, Kenny, daughter-in-law, Anita, and their two daughters, Aria and Iris,
and with my brother Truman, who relocated here from North Carolina about two years ago.
My husband died in 2002. I’ve been in the Payroll department of the Los Angeles Unified School District for over 16 years, and am currently helping with the California State Teacher’s Retirement Unit, and with the recent change of computer systems. My children are all married. My daughter Michelle is a Occupational Therapist, and her husband Damon recently graduated from the Cordon Bleu cooking school in Pasadena. I have five grandchildren right now, ages from 3 months to 14 years. The two boys, Khy and Kaine, are autistic, but very high functioning, and a lot of fun. The granddaughters are 3 months, 2 and 4 (Lilliana) years of age, and the light of our lives. My youngest daughter, Ammey, has MS, and will be moving with her husband Mikel and family to Nashville, Tennessee next month. We’ve always been a really close family, so this is a big change for us all. We’re all, (14 of us) going to Zion National Park in July, as a way to spend a few more days together before waving goodbye to Ammey and her family. Attended Central Washington for a very short time.
In the Army from 1966 to 1968.
1969 Married Colleen Weaver. We have one daughter Charlotte who is married to Fred Zissel.
They have two sons Drew and Tyler.
I have spent most of my time in the Cedar business from cutting the raw log to manufacturing fancy paneling.
Early 70's was a superintendent for Lee Homes and built houses on the Olympic Peninsula living in Port Angeles and Sequim.
Late 70's to mid 80's was in a partnership manufacturing cedar paneling and sidings in North Seattle and Tacoma.
Mid 80's to early 90's was with Loth Lumber with mills in Gold Bar, Forks and Port Angeles. Sold our product into Australia, Orient, Europe and the US and traveled to all. 90's had a partnership in a small building supply company. Now I do the back office for Colleen and do some web page stuff.
Colleen and I have traveled what I think is a lot but we don't travel much any more, which is fine with us.
Our interests now are golf and watching our grandsons grow up, well at least I hope someday they will grow up, not like their grandpa who has never grown up just out. Retirement? Some people think I already am but I'm not, really Colleen I'm not. |

Stewart left Monroe for Wenatchee in 1955 and attended school in East Wenatchee.
Following high school graduation, Stewart attended Wenatchee Valley College and served in the Army.
He married Charlene Elison in 1969 and they had two daughters.
He worked for Cedergreen Foods in Wenatchee, was active in sports and snowmobile racing.
Stewart died in a motorcycle accident on Memorial Day weekend in 1988. |

On November 26, 2002 at Mt. Vernon Nursing Home. VALERA BRENNAN of Alexandria, VA. Wife of Dr. Phillip Brennan. She was an Elder in a Presbyterian church and a member of the Association of Social Workers. She was vice president of the Ethos Group-Infant, Child, Adolescent and Family Therapy Centers. Survived by one daughter, Lara Lynch; four stepchildren, Linda Wack, Patricia Garrett, Eve Edwards, and Phil Brennan Jr. Also survived by one brother, Donald H. Clarke and five grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, 316 S. Royal St. on Saturday, November 30, at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Valera Brennan to the Old Presbyterian Memorial Fund. Interment private.
Published in The Washington Post on 11/27/2002.

(2009) Sorry I won't be able to make it, I work for a school district here, and school is in session. I run the staff lounge and cafeteria. Wouldn't want those teachers to miss
their lunch. We spent almost 2 months up in Washington and it was great. We were there for the birth of our last grandchild (we think). My second son Rob who
lives in La Conner became the proud father of his 1st son, after having two teenage daughters. So now between the two of us we have 24 grandchildren. Life is good.

(2007) Karl and I were married in 1966 while he was serving in the US Navy and lived in
Norfolk VA for one year before returning to the Pacific Northwest. He works as a mortgage broker, and I am employed as a
dental practice manager at Community Health Center of Snohomish County, a private non-profit health care organization
devoted to serving low income and uninsured families. We have two sons living in Marysville with their families, and a
daughter in Bonney Lake, and two grandchildren who make our home a second home and are the light of our lives.
We enjoy watching the kids' sports, traveling, birding, preparing new foods, and gardening in our "spare" time - haven't
seen much of that lately! I really appreciate and enjoy having this web page. Thanks to those who have worked to put it
together - your time is well spent. |

Patrol Officer - Died: December 18, 1984 On December 18, 1984, at about 6:25AM, Seattle Police Officer Nick Davis was shot and killed in the line of duty. Officer Davis was working a prowler car in the First Hill area of the city. As he approached the International House of Pancakes at 950 East Madison Street, he saw one of the restaurant employees chasing a man. The employee told the officer that the suspect fled after failing to pay his $4.55 food bill. Officer Davis radioed for back up and approached the suspect. A struggle ensued and the suspect was able to take Officer Davis' revolver. The suspect shot Officer Davis twice. The suspect fled, but was captured a short distance away. Officer Nick Davis died 30 minutes later at Harborview Medical Center. Nick's commission date: August 13, 1979. He was survived by his wife Stacie and his three sons Jeff, Jim,and Jerry. |

(Ginger wrote this for Mike 2009) Mike will celebrate his 40th year at Boeing this September;
he started out as a mechanic and became a tool engineer about 25 years ago. He has worked on every commercial airplane program since the Wright brothers first flight (just checking to see if he is paying attention). Mike and I met in 1988 and got married in McCall, Idaho in '93.
He helped raise my daughter and is now "Papa" to our 3 granddaughters who live with us.

(2009) I Left Monroe at end of the 7th grade.
I graduated from University of Washington undergraduate, then medical school in early 70's and practiced GYN surgery for 25+ years.
Met her husband of 36+ years in medical school the end of her first year and married at end of second year.
After full medical career retired from medicine for the ministry, went back to school and did two years academic Theology masters degrees
and a Doctor of Ministry at Oral Roberts University and now I am in ministry.
Sorry I cannot attend but after 25 years in Oklahoma moved to California recently and the next couple of months my husband is
finishing up things in Ok. and then will be commuting every other week starting sometime in Sept., so, not knowing what our schedule is going to be I will be
unable to travel at this time. |

(2009) I married Laurie Brown (class of 71) in March of 1976.
In 1985 we were blessed with sobriety and the birth of Joshua. Julie came along in late 1986.
In 1989 Marv, Laurie and the two pre-schoolers re-located to Stanwood, where 14 year old Doug,
one of my sons from my marriage to Deb Bohanon (class of 68) joined the family to complete his high school years.
In 1992 I retired from 14 years of car sales so that Laurie and I could purchase Elger Bay Grocery on Camano Island.
In 2006 we moved into a new home on the store property selling our home in Stanwood to son Doug and his wife Kate.
Both are teachers in Stanwood. The store is truly a "mom and pop" operation. I am semi-retired working a few mornings a week.
Laurie does all the bookkeeping and some purchasing. Joshua manages all other aspects of the business.
His wife Elyse and mother in law Kara also work there and Josh and Elyse recently added the newest grandson Tristan.
He joins Doug and Kate's children Olivia and Maggie. Mark and Karen's kids are Andrew and Noelani. They live in Mt. Vernon.
Julie recently graduated from PLU and is working the summer at the store until she gets a job in the field of law.
For now all the family is close by and Laurie and I plan to live out our lives in "Elger Hollow".
So if you're ever on Camano Island stop in and say hi. |

Jan. 10, 1946 TO Apr. 04, 2007 **Veteran** Mr. Darryl Gellert, beloved husband of Deenie for 34 years, and father of Dean of Poulsbo, and Drew of Olympia, died suddenly of a heart attack April 4, 2007. He is survived by his father, Al Gellert; and Sister, Denise Dunsing (Russell) of Monroe; nephew, Russell Dunsing II; nieces, Jada Creswell and Jeni Pizzuto and many other relatives in Seattle and Canada. Cousin to Dan Weaver He will also be deeply missed by his many friends, faculty and students of Olympic High School in Central Kitsap. Darryl was a resident of Bainbridge Island for the past 28 years. He was a very popular and loved teacher of business classes at Olympic High School since it opened in the late 1970's and was also active in the school's Athletic Department, serving at various times as a football coach and golf coach. Darryl was a very avid golfer and participated in many of the area golf tournaments, particularly the couple's events with his wife, Deenie. At the time of his death, he was serving his third consecutive term as the President of the Board of Directors of Meadowmeer Golf and Country Club on Bainbridge Island. Darryl was a graduate of Cave Junction High School in Oregon in 1964, where he received state honors in basketball and football. He then attended Gonzaga University on a basketball scholarship, graduating in 1968. Following a three year stint in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman, he then received his teaching credentials at the University of Washington in 1973 and began teaching in the Shoreline School District in 1974 and continued his career in the Central Kitsap school district starting in 1976. A memorial service was held in his honor on Sunday April 15th, at Acacia Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 14951 Bothell Way N.E., Seattle, Washington 98155.

(2009) Hi All, I've been in the Florida Keys for the last 30 years. Diving, fishing, golfing and working (a little).
I started Four Star Rentals. Inc in 1986 and over the years have built it to 2 stores and 15 employees. Although we've move to the Tampa area.
I still commute to the "Keys" in my small plane once a week to work. Learning to fly has been a great time saver. Charlotte and I have been together for twenty years and have 2 daughters. Mimi is 13 years old and a competitive gymnast. She was 1st place in her age and skill group for the state of Florida and represented Florida (with 6 other girls) in regional meets in Atlanta. Charlotte is a stay at home mother and is enjoying spending time with the girls before they grow up and leave home. When she works, she sells real-estate and is a broker/sales person. Wallace Lyn Gruwell, 61, an Air Force veteran and field service engineer for Getingé
USA, died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at a local hospital from injuries he received in a motorcycle accident near Neihart, MT.
His memorial service is 10 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2007, at First Southern Baptist Church. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Gruwell, of Great Falls, MT; daughters, Melody (Bret) Vlasie, of Bozeman MT, Sarah Gruwell and Laura Gruwell, both of Great Falls; sisters, Barbara (Ronald) Pumphrey, of Arlington, WA, and Martha (Thomas) Foster, of Bothell, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wallace Lyn Gruwell was born December 19, 1945, in Everett, WA, to Wallace Leroy and Eleanor (Esswine) Gruwell and raised in Silvanna, WA.
He graduated from Monroe (WA) High School in 1964 and joined the Air Force. While serving his country he received a BSOE in bio-medical sciences from Wayland Baptist University while stationed at Shepherd Air Force Base in 1980 and an associate's degree in instruc-tion technology in 1983 from the Community College of the Air Force. He retired from the Air Force in 1989 after 23 years of traveling throughout the world as a medical services specialist and a biomedical technician. As a master sergeant stationed in Maine, his love for the outdoors was reflected in his ownership and operation of a Christmas tree farm.
He married Michiko Shiina in 1973 in Japan, and they divorced in 1980. He married Carol Rich in 1981, in Anchorage, Alaska.
Prior to moving to Great Falls, he lived in Utah, where he worked for Getingé USA from 1989 to 2007 as a field services engineer, travel-ing throughout Montana, Wyoming and Idaho.

Since high school I joined the Navy in July of 1964, boot camp in San Diego for 3 months then to Radioman school in
San Diego for 6 months. Then to the Destroyer Escort USS Charles Berry DE-1035 in April of 1965 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii until Sept of 1967 when I was
let off in Adak, Alaska to be honorably discharged in Seattle, WA. in Sept of 1967. I attended Everett Community college for 6 months then realized that
I better get a job that has a retirement system so I went to work for the US postal service in March of 1968. I worked there for 33 years as a letter
carrier until July of 2001. During those years between 1968 and 2001 I played on a softball team for years in Everett rec league and grew tired of that so
at age 30 I started playing soccer on a few teams in Snohomish county league and also the state league. But after 3 years of that, too much traveling.
Also I coached a couple of girls soccer teams, and that was so much fun. And was a referee for about 15 years then things became too boring and I quit at
age 50. Then after I retired from the post office I sold my home in Marysville, WA. and moved to Burlington, WA. Then in Sept of 2001 I got a chance to
work for the Burlington-Edison school district as a bus driver. I am still here because it is so much fun at the school district.
I was even a delegate to a couple of PSE state conventions. I might work a couple of more years then who knows what's next.
I also have one son who is 27 years old now and lives in Everett, WA. I enjoy watching Bill O'Reilly,
especially when Dennis Miller is on, Seinfeld, Married With Children, history channel, discovery, PBS, and sports. That's enough of that.
During the summer months and when the weather is warm enough I enjoy riding my motorcycle as often as I can. |

(2009) Ted Hager was born August 28th 1945 on the family farm in Orrin, North Dakota.
One of 4 children, they lived on the farm until they moved to Ellensburg, Washington in 1954, where Ted's mother attended
Central Washington University to get her teaching degree. In 1959, the family moved to Monroe, Washington living on Madison Street.
On October 23rd 1964, Ted married Joy Jelinek and had two children Anne and Joey. Ted worked at a cedar mill for most of his adult life
until he became sick and went on Kidney dialysis. On June 14th 1985 he passed away. His uncle from North Dakota took
Ted's ashes back to the Hager Farm in Orrin, North Dakota where he spread his ashes. Ted's daughter, Anne now lives in Sultan, and his son Joey,
lives in Monroe. Ted's family home on Madison Street was recently destroyed on July 4th 2009 from a house fire. |

(2009) My family moved from Monroe after our 8th grade year
(and I still remember you carrying me off the football field after I played for Marysville in a 9th grade game!).
After college graduation I taught grade school for 5 years in Kansas then returned to Monroe in 1974.
My "careers" since then include owning a bookkeeping firm with my father, managing a restaurant, then the past 30 years at Boeing.
During those 30 years I also worked part time as a Financial Planner, owned the Park Place Grocery & Gas and I currently work at
John L Scott as a realtor.
In 1982 I married Sara Jane Johnston and we have two sons, Aaron (b. 1984) and Cameron (b. 1987).
Hobbies & activities include woodworking, managing some small investments, and involvement at church.
We continue to live on 2 plus acres in Monroe with our horses, dogs and cats.

Gardell Lasalle Brallier (AKA Moccasin Woman and Anna-284)Born May 24, 1946 - Died December 26, 2002.
Gardell Brallier passed away December 26, 2002, in a Spokane hospital after a battle with asthma and a heart attack.
She was born on May 24, 1946 and was raised in a logging family in Monroe, WA. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 23 years,
Willie Brallier, as well as a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. Gardell was a deeply spiritual woman who took pride in her native American heritage.
She was affectionately named "The Moccasin Woman" on the CB Radio. She also used the handle "Anna-284" to communicate with her friends on the airwaves.
She was preceded by her mother, Marlys Johnsen; grandmothers, Anna Christina Moser-Ray and Ida Johnsen; niece, Tina Matkins; and several other deeply loved
family members and friends. Gardell is survived by her husband, Willie Brallier; her father, Herb Johnsen; daughter, Shawn Tina Schirman and husband Tim;
granddaughters, Tabatha Brallier and Lacey Sherman; sister, Linda Matkins and husband Rich; brothers Steve and Joe Johnsen; and her "Bud" Pat Johnsen.
She is also survived by 2 nieces; 3 nephews; 3 grand-nieces; 2 great-nephews; and many, many friends.
She was a special person that touched the lives of all she knew.
May God bless her. A memorial service will be held at a later date. |

(2009) Bob and I have lived on Wagner Road in Monroe for 40+ years.
We have 2-daughters, 2-son-in-laws and 5-grandchildren that live on either side of us on Wagner Road.
Grandchildren ages: Sadie 5; Elizabeth 4; Sawyer, 3; Madison & Alexis 1 year.
Bob has been retired for several years but I continue to work and he likes it that way.
I have worked for The Everett Clinic since 1980 and for the last 23 years, I have been in Human Resources as an HR Manager.
I enjoy traveling and sometimes I take Bob with me. I have a "Bucket List" to see all the 7-wonders of the world before I die.
I have seen Niagra Falls, the Grand Canyon, and will travel to China to see the Great Wall the end of September.
In October of last year, I went part-time and began looking for something to do in my spare time other than babysitting. I discovered Everett Parks and Recreation offer many outdoor activities--I have taken several snowshoe trips and multiple wilderness hikes. After working inside for so many years, it is awesome to get out into nature. I also collect Hard Rock Cafe pins--I like to get 2-pins from each HRC, one pin to keep and the other I hope to trade 'someday'. If you visit a HRC--I would love if you would purchase 2-pins (any 2-pins)--I will reimburse you for cost and shipping of the pins but not for food and drinks while there. I look forward to seeing everyone at the reunion!!

I really enjoyed going through the pics,
I think I have some of our senior trip, if I can find them I'll send them over. I would love to hear what everyone is doing.
I have been a widow for almost 7 yrs now. Still working for the school district, I've got my 25 in, but have to wait until I'm 65 to draw Medicare.
Sure never thought 65 would be one of those yrs. we yern for, your know like 16, 18, 21 hell I even thought 25 was great.
Gotta have that insurance as I am diabetic. I have 4 wonderful grandkids. Two girls in Arizona, love visiting them in the winter.
A girl and 3 week old grandson here in Sunnyside. Check them out on Facebook.
I visit Vegas 5-6 times a year (great source of extra income). |

(2009) I returned home from Vietnam in the spring of 1968, and went to work for the Dept. of Natural Resources in North Bend working the summer fire seasons until 1973, then full time through 1976.
I met Carolyn while living in North Bend and we married in September of 1969. We spent the first ten years in the Bellevue, Kirkland area working for DNR and going to school at Bellevue Community College. While in Kirkland we had two boys, Jeff and Tim.
I returned to school in 1976 and graduated in 1978 with a degree from the U of W in Forest Management. We spent two years in Ellensburg where Carolyn was able to finish her degree in Accounting, moved to our current location in Stanwood in 1981 and raised our boy's.
I continue to work as a forester for a California family that owns a hardwood panel plant in Bellingham, and a tree farm that I manage in Skagit County. I have been with them 25 years.
Jeff and his wife Kelcey are physical therapists living in Bothell with their two daughters Ellie and Lucy. Tim is living in Las Vegas, he is a branch training manager for US Bank and he works Nevada and Arizona.
Both boy's graduated from the U of W.

(2009) Served in army 1965-68, awarded Bronze Star Medal in Vietnam. Married beautiful coed in 1971. Graduated from Washington State University in 1973 with a degree in Landscape Architecture. 1973-77 employed as Field Superintendent for landscape contractor in Spokane, and District Landscape Architect for Washington State Highway Department in Olympia.
1977 became nationally licensed as Landscape Architect. 1977-99 employed by National Park Service (NPS) headquartered in Denver.
Provided design and construction supervision services for NPS projects throughout the country including National Parks, National Monuments, National Seashores, National Historic Areas, National Recreation Areas and National Parkways. 1989-99 served as Chief of NPS Roads, Bridges and Trails for the western United States. My wife Chris worked as retail Display Designer until 1981 when our first daughter was born and then became a stay at home Mom. Our second daughter was born in 1984. One daughter is married and teaches Kindergarten and the other is a Fashion Designer in CA. After retiring, from the NPS in 1999, we purchased some ranch land in south central Colorado. In 2004 we built a house and moved to the ranch. I enjoy returning to the farming/ranching life of my youth; the 330 days of sunshine a year are appreciated by my old bones as I am now working harder physically than anytime in the past 30 years. We still find time to take several vacations each year and especially enjoy warm climates during the winter months. |

Funeral Held for Tom Maki: Funeral Services for 18-year old Thomas Edward Maki, 17329 154th St., who passed away suddenly early New Years Day, January 1st 1965, were held here Tuesday with the Rev. E. A. Norman officiating. Tom was reported to have complained of excessive heart beat after he had helped some friends push a car from a ditch earlier in the evening. He was dead on arrival at Valley General Hospital at 1:30 am Friday after he suddenly became ill at his home a short time earlier. Tom, a popular Monroe High School graduate and former Bearcat athlete, died from asphyxiation brought on from an obstruction in the larynx, according to Snohomish County Coroner Zon Baker. The coroner said the autopsy report said the young man's heart was in good condition and that he was apparently suffering from an intestinal influenza. Baker said further tests are being made to ascertain the type of influenza. Tom was born October 30th, 1946 in Chehalis. He came to Monroe with his parents six years ago. Tom was a student at Everett Junior College, taking up college studies following his graduation from Monroe high last June. Tom was a member of the Mission Covenant Church and the Teamsters Union in Everett. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Theda Maki, Monroe; his father, Matt Maki of Monroe; his stepfather, John Maki of Monroe; his sister, Linda Maki and two stepbrothers, David and John Maki, all at home. Services were held in the Purdy & Kerr Chapel with burial following in the IOOF Cemetery east of here. Casketbearers were Skip Bosch, Roger Wilcoxson, John Jensen, Jerry Lorenz, Doug Halstrom and Steve Gohl. |

(2009) I will not be able to attend because of prior committment. (Family
funeral.) but I still live in Monroe, and I still work at the hospital here.
I have a son (Tom and daughter (Kari) who have children, which makes me a grandmother of 5 boys. They all live around close so I get to see them often.
I am still pretty healthy hale and hearty, which when I read about the people who have died makes me thankful and sad at the same time. |

(2009) I've been married 42 years and have livid in Beardstown Illinois those 42 years.
We have 2 son's Travis and his wife is Beth. They have 3 boys. Will 12, Sam 9 and Ben 4.
Travis is a high school history teacher and Beth is a Junior High principle. Our other son Jason and his wife Sara have 2 boys, Isaac 3 and Eli 4 months.
Jason is a vice president of 1st National Bank here in Beardstown. Sara works at Realtor & Insurance Company.
My husband Dale is now retired and I work as an assistant librarian at the school district. I enjoy my grandson's and play golf in the summer months. Life is good!! Hope you all enjoy the reunion and I wish I could join you. But such is life. I'll be back to work then. Big hello to all. |

they shall walk and not be weary, they shall run and faint not. He joins his father Lloyd, mother, brother Phil, Mark and Kathryn Hall.
He leaves behind his family: Rozelle Hall, stepmother Nada McCaffery, Wendy Hall, Susan Finnegan (Steve), Luke Hall (Melissa), Luci Hall,
Sara Hall and Steven Finnegan. A celebration of Michael's life will be held later with Michael's friends and family.

(2009) After graduating from high school I went to Everett Junior College for two years. July 1 1966 I married Richard Toyer. Richard left for the Vietnam War 13 days later. In the fall of 1966 I transferred to Central Washington University. I got a degree in Education with a major in PE. My minors were Health and Recreation. When Richard got out of the service he went to CWU and got an accounting degree. So while he was going to college I taught PE in the Ellensburg school system. My last year in Ellensburg I was at CWU teaching PE. After Rich graduated in 1973 we moved to Lake Stevens. Since there were so many teachers in this area I went to work at a private tennis club. I worked there until the day before our son David was born. David was born on January 2nd 1977. I stayed at home until September 1977. Then I went to work with Richard because he open his own CPA business. I worked at his CPA office for seventeen years/ Om 1993 We built our dream house on the 9th hole of the Snohomish Golf Course. In 1995 I ventured out and did contract work. In 2001 we move to our current house in Everett. The dream house and 5 acres became too much work. I retired in August of 2002. Richard and I celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary on July 1st 2009. Our son David gave his girlfriend Heather a Promise ring on July 11, 2009.

(2009) Forty-five years: they've passed so quickly, but I've had such fun!
Each new phase has brought special joys. *** After high school I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent in Ellensburg obtaining a degree in
history from Central Washington University. Ellensburg still remains a favorite destination for me. *** During that time I, also, met and
married my husband, of now 43 years, Larry. His work as a professional land surveyor (PLS) took us to many interesting job sites in the
western U.S. including Port Orford, Oregon; Winnemucca, Nevada; Sheridan, Wyoming and dozens more *** Our son Christopher Matthew was born in 1977.
At that time we settled down in Monroe and Larry opened his own small office in Snohomish. Work and family kept us busy.
Christopher chose WSU after graduating from MHS in 1995. We've loved being Coug Parents! *** Christopher works in marketing in
Bellevue now and lives with his wonderful wife, Karen, on a small farm near Sultan. *** We recently moved into town where we relish
the activity and diversity of living on South Lewis Street. *** We are both enjoying retirement.
I spent twenty years working as a teacher for the federal Head Start program. A job that was perfect for me. ***
Now much of our time is spent with our grandchildren. Collin Matthew is a sweet little boy, 3 ¾ years old. Sophie Ann is a
feisty little pixie, 1 ¾ years old. I also enjoy visiting with friends, especially at bakeries. I'm an unabashed political "junkie".
I spend time volunteering on social justice issues. I, also, love travel and am attempting to visit all of the presidential libraries. ***

My wife Karen (maiden name Haga) of 38 years were married on June 15th 1971.
We have 2 daughters (Caili born 9/13/74 and Christi Ann 1/3/79) and 2 grandchildren.
I had a heart attack this past year and had 3/4 of my colon removed for non-cancerous reasons.
Karen is a bookkeeper and enjoys stamp collecting, homemaking and our family.
I am a book worm enjoy history and model cars. I attended Ryerwood for first grade and 2nd through 5th at Vader then Monroe 6th through graduation.

Roy R. Root, age 59, was born in Monroe, Washington, on August 19, 1945,
to Ralph and Grace Root, Sr. He passed away August 14, 2005, in Marysville, Washington, after a short bout with cancer.
Roy worked as a maintenance engineer at Providence Everett Medical Center for 24 years. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Ken and Jim; and a sister, Viola. Roy leaves behind his beloved wife, Carmen; his three sons, Robert, Daniel, and Timothy; three grandchildren, Ryan, Evan, and Abigail; brother, Ralph; sisters, Lily, Ruby, Susan, and Sharon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Roy was a great father to his children and grandchildren and a beloved husband to his wife. |

(2009) Although I transferred to Snohomish to finish high school.
I always have considered myself a Bearcat. My roots are in Monroe and I always feel "home again" when I return to see old friends and family.
After graduating from the University of Oregon (just barely) I embarked on a 35 year career in college football coaching which meant many moves,
getting fired many times, but always doing something I never considered a job. I loved what I did. In 1986 I returned to the University of Oregon to coach. After Sue Smith dropped me in the 6th grade for an older boy (so she told me) it took me many years and two marriages for me to recover myself image. In 1988 I proved that the third time is the charm. I married a wonderful woman. Cindy was a cheerleader when I played there. She has been a great coach's wife. Today we're "snowbirds" living in Hollister California I call East Carmel as it sounds more impressive and in Sunriver Oregon in the summer. We travel, sail, golf poorly and enjoy our grandchildren. We've been involved with animal rescue so we have two horses, two dogs and 4 cats which all place me very low on Cindy's list of priorities which does not even consider our children and grandchildren. None the less I'm very happy and looking forward to seeing my old classmates again, Thanks for inviting me. |

Karlene Schwindamann Berteaux. Karlene left us to go home to be with her heavenly father on 4/14/08.
He called her home peacefully while surrounded by family. She was 62 years old. Beloved wife, grandma, sister and friend.
She grew up in Kansas and later made Seattle her home. She was a welder at Lockheed Shipyard for many years.
Karlene loved video games, especially Pac Man. She met her future husband at a video arcade.
He asked her if he could play a game with her and she said yes.
They then began dating and shortly thereafter she said yes again when he asked her if she would marry him.
She was a lover of all animals, the only person I ever knew to cry over what we would call "road kill".
When asked if she had children, she always said "Yes, I have 2: Shaq and Zima".
She always had a positive outlook on life and enjoyed the simple things like joy rides with her husband around Alki Beach,
spending the day with her sister Cheryl and going different places for lunch, talking to me, her best friend, for hours at a time.
We didn't get to see much of each other, due to the miles that separated us, but very few people can say they've had a best friend for 25 years,
seeing each other only 2 to 3 times a year. It is a friendship that can only be heaven sent. Good or bad times, with each other,
is who we wanted to share them with. She loved playing the lottery and buying scratch tickets. She was a die-hard Oakland Raider fan.
She loved dancing, Chinese food, playing Dominos, putting on yard sales and winning at anything she did.
Although she never acquired a driver's license, she loved to sit shotgun and tell others how to drive.
She loved Christmas but her favorite holiday was the 4th of July. Her and her husband would go to their secret place,
known only by them, where they would watch the fireworks every year. She only had kind words and a warm smile to offer.
She was full of life, strong and gentle, loving, full of integrity and honesty. She was the perfect example of how to act and treat others.
She was the backbone of the family. Her actions always spoke louder than her words. I am so blessed to have had her for 25 years.
I am a better person because of her. Left to cherish her memory are husband Michael, son Demetrius, her grandchildren O'Shey and little Demetrius,
sister Cheryl, brother Keith, her little girl Zima, her adopted dad, Biker Bill, and her best friend Kellie.

(2007) A few years ago I purchased a house on Camano Island about 3 blocks from Cynthia (Green) Boyd.
I don’t receive mail there, however. After I retire (who knows when that will be), I will live there full time. Life is good. I am still working at PRO Sports Club in Bellevue (18 +years). It is a wonderful place to work. As an example, in May, the club sent all managers and their spouses to Maui for 5 days. My daughter, Cynthia, lives in Seattle. She works as a senior water quality engineer for the Washington State Department of Ecology. My son, Todd, is a Whatcom County deputy sheriff and also a mortgage broker. He lives in Ferndale with his wonderful wife, three kids and Zora ( a 102 pound dog). I absolutely love being with my grandkids: Conner 4, Caden 2 1/2 and Claire Issabella 10 months. They are always teaching Gramma Sue something new. This summer I have been very fortunate to spend several days with Cathy McCain, Myrna Jensen, Patti Skillen, Carol Felix and Janice Cabe. My jaws hurt from laughing for days after our get togethers. Having great friends for 55 + years is a real blessing. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the 45th reunion. Can you believe we are that old? |

Rodney Michael (Rod) Courtier passed away at the Golden & District General Hospital on Thursday, January 10th, 2008 at the age of 61 years. A Funeral Service will be held from the Golden 7th Day Adventist Church, Golden, B.C. on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Frank Johnson officiating. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ADRA Canada, 1148 King Street East, Oshawa, Ontario L1K 2H5, in memory of Rod.
Rod was born in Seattle, Washington on July 1, 1946 and had been a resident of Golden since 1993. He liked fishing and autobody painting as hobbies. Rod enjoyed listening to the radio in recent times, due to his declining eyesight.
Rod was predeceased by his sister Diane Sandberg. He is survived by his wife Carol of Golden; two daughters: Cheris Wardman and Jenifer Courtier, both of Golden; five grandchildren: Jasmine, Nicole, Bronwynn, Bridgytte and Matthew, all of Golden; his dog Murphy and his half-sister Cheryl (Darryl) Janke of Spokane, Washington.

(2009) We have lived in Monroe from 1969 to 2004. We then made a move to Greensboro, North Carolina where Tricia's family lives. I worked for a fresh water resort for a season cooking, maintenance, groundskeeper, etc. While there we bought a brick 3 bedroom, 2 bath, hardwood floors, large garage on 1 ½ acre, surrounded by tobacco fields, very different for us. But as luck would have it Tricia got homesick in 2008 for our son & daughter in-law, who remained in Washington. My son works for the Department of Corrections. My daughter in-law works for a dentist in Monroe. Our move back to Washington was very interesting. We left NC in an ice storm. My son came back to assist in the move. We loaded our belongings in a rental truck, put a car trailer with my Toyota PU on the back and the cat in a carrier on the seat and away we go west bound on I-40. My son was the head driver. We saw a lot of beautiful country. A whole lot of ice and snow but 6 days 3685 miles and 794 gallons of diesel we arrived in Leavenworth WA. Where we decided to settle for 3 months. While we looked for a house we lived with George and Carolyn Lang. We finally purchased a pre-fab fixer. We are a short distance from Blewett pass. Snuggled in the mountains, our 1st year we only had 5 ½ feet of snow from November to March. The funny thing is it's the only house I ever bought that came with a snow blower. The wife works in the Bavarian Village of Leavenworth. I have a degree in law enforcement thus I have worked as a police officer, salesman, carpenter, organic gardener, security officer, cook, Dutch oven teacher. Most recently we are involved with the Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief N/W. We provide a feeding unit at a disaster site - forest fire, floods in Washington or where ever the Red Cross sends us. My hobbies are Hunting, fishing, camping, Boy Scouts of America, Dutch-Oven Cooking, remodeling my house. Oh yeah! 42 years of wedded bliss. |

(2009) Attended Eastern Washington State College and graduated in 1970 with a BA in Business and minor in 'the army'
(thought it would be better to get paid as a 2nd Lieutenant than a private). After returning from Vietnam, began working in the printing business which
I have done for the last 37 years. The last 22 years have worked out of my own office in Portland, Oregon. Married Sonja in 1995 and between us we have
1 son, 4 daughters, 8 grandkids and 1 great-grandson (no wonder I have shrunk an inch and don't have any hair left).
We will be retiring at the end of 2009 and look forward to traveling and playing as many golf courses as we can.
At this point I have collected 160 golf balls from the different courses that I have played. Now if someone would just show me how to play the game,
it would be even better.
If any one actually reads this I will buy them a beer. |

Bill and I have made Alaska our home for the past 28 years. We are both retired now and enjoy the freedoms that accompanys the lifestyle. There never seems to be enough time to get all of those pesky projects done and we often wonder how we ever managed to work full time and keep up with the chores.
For Bill, hunting and fishing fills a lot of his time and I'm trying to get caught up on 25 years of craft projects that I never got to while I was working. We haven't done much traveling since we retired, but we are planning a trip to Australia sometime next year. We lived there for three years ('76-'79) and our twin daughters were born there. When they graduated from high school in '97 we returned to Australia for an enjoyable 7 week trip. We hope to see some new sights on our next visit.
Our daughters attended college in Arizona and both settled in Seattle after graduating. Amanda continues to live in Seattle and works as a physical therapist. Laura has been in Reno for the past three years and got married this summer to a wonderful young man.
Alaska is beautiful and a great place to vacation and we always welcome visitors. Don't hesitate to give us a call. |

(2009)It doesn't seem like 45 years! I still feel like I am 18 . That we would be in my mind, not my body!
I went to nursing school right after high school and then worked for 5 years in three different hospitals in two state.
During that time I met and married my husband and then proceeded to have 4 children. For 16 years I was a stay-at-home mom.
I then took a refresher course in nursing and went back to work for about 10 years, but always part time.
I retired early when we moved down to Auburn from Shoreline 8 years ago. Since that time my work has all been volunteer in various areas: World Vision,
Love In the Name of Christ, our church and babysitting grandchildren. Our children are all married and we have 11 grandchildren with another on the way.
Two of our children live near us and two are out of state, so when we want a vacation we usually go see some of our out of state grandkids.
Life is good! I was quite close to our classmate LeAnne and saw her on a regular basis, so it was quite a change for me when she died a year ago.
I had been taking weekly trips to Monroe to care for my Dad and he died last December so there is always a new twist in life. |

Dennis "Mike" Willcut, 62, died April 15, 2008, at his home, with his devoted wife of 42 years at his side. He was born in 1945 in Fargo, N.D., to John and Barbara Willcut. He and his large family moved often in his youth, until they settled in Kalispell. There he met his wife, Rita Karen Fishel.
Mike was proud to have worked hard to provide for his family in the logging and timber industry. He did many different jobs, including sawyer, truck driver, skidder operator or “whatever needed done.”
He was always extremely proud of the home that he and his wife built in the North Fork and where they raised their family. Being a family man, Mike was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and rarely missed any of their events.
After his brother and best friend, Roger, passed away, he was somewhat at a loss until he was introduced to Black Powder Rendezvous, and that community of people readily accepted him and he fell right in. He subsequently introduced his children, grandchildren, brother John, and sister Mary to Rendezvous, and they made many memories together.
Because of Mike’s long illness, he was faced with many challenges, and always faced them with a smile and good sense of humor. He was quick to laugh with others and quicker to laugh at himself. As his disease progressed, his speech often became difficult, but his friends at Rendezvous took to calling him “Smoothtalker” — a moniker that stuck and always brought a smile to his face.
Preceding Mike in death were his parents, John Willcut and Barbara Cornelius; and his best friend and brother, Roger Willcut.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Willcut, of Columbia Falls; daughter, Stacia and Dean Thompson of Columbia Falls; son, Travis and Vicki Willcut of Kalispell; grandchildren, Samantha McDonald, Tyler Thompson, Scout and Bridger Willcut; brothers, Jim and Twila Willcut, Tim and Dolly Willcut, and John and Debbie Willcut; and sisters, Barbara Crowell, Sharon Burns, Mary and Dan Jensen, and Sandy Willcut. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mike blessed and inspired all who met and knew him. Honoring Mike’s wishes, there will not be a funeral, but an event celebrating his life will be held at a later date to be determined.

Keith Allen Zierman, beloved Father, Brother and Grandfather, passed from his life due to heart failure on Friday April 18th, 2008, in Yelm, Washington at the age of 63. Keith was born in Seattle, Washington on October 24th, 1944, the first son of Clinton E and Lavern Zierman. He completed his high school education at Monroe High School in 1964 and took many courses to further his career as a Machinist.
Keith wore many hats in the final years of his life landscaper, auto mechanic, painter, home improvements and many other skills he picked up over the years. Early on he worked for the Railroad and went on to work 13 years at Disston Saw as a Journeyman Machinist. When he wasn't working, Keith enjoyed reading, visiting with friends and working on projects for and with his children. His true joy was his family and he always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren. He was a proud and frugal, yet giving, man who lived a simple life to his choosing.
Keith was married to the girl next door, Sheryl Hendrix in the Spring of 1965 until their divorce in 1984. Keith and Sheryl have four children, sons Brett Zierman and Bryan Zierman of Puyallup, Washington, Daughters Amber Zierman Hargrove of Fairfield, California and Amy Zierman Middling of Puyallup, Washington.
Keith is survived by his children, two sons-in-law Andy Middling and Roy Hargrove, brother Eric Zierman, Grandchildren Kiersten Zierman, Carrera Zierman, Shalimar Zierman, Josilyn Middling, Blake Zierman, Wiley Middling, Amori (Momo) May Hargrove and Harmony Zierman, three nephews Jason, Jeffrey, Seth, one niece Jacqueline and too many friends to mention. Keith was preceded in death by his parents Clinton and Lavern and brother Leroy Zierman.
Services were on Sunday April 27th, 2008, 2:30pm at the Yelm Community United Methodist Church 408 South East 2nd Street, Yelm,
Washington 98597 and all memorial contributions may be made to the church. |
